Dhenkanal: Vigilance department sleuths today arrested the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Nihalprasad police station in Dhenkanal district for taking bribe.
The tainted IIC identified as Chittaranjan Behera was caught by Vigilance department sleuths while taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from one Aintha Sethi to strike-off section 307 IPC (attempt to murder) from a dowry-related case registered at Nihalprasad police station.
Behera had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to strike off the section, Vigilance officials caught him while he was taking Rs 6,000 from Sethi through his personal driver Prakash Mahalik.
“IIC Nihalprasad had demanded Rs 6,000 from the complainant to delete section 307 from a dowry torture case. IIC Nihalprasad was caught taking the bribe amount through two private persons Prakash Mahalik and Laxman Sethi.
Mahalik is the personal driver of Nihalprasad IIC. We have seized the bribe amount,” informed Surendra Nath Raiguru, DSP, Vigilance.
In this case, we have arrested Prakash Mahalik, Laxman Sethi, and IIC Nihalprasad, Raiguru added.
