Bhubaneswar: Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday announced that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is in the final stages of preparing a comprehensive master plan to address the persistent waterlogging issues in Bhubaneswar.
“The master plan is nearly complete. IIT Roorkee will soon submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Once the DPR is submitted, necessary construction work will be undertaken to mitigate the city’s waterlogging problems,” said Minister Mahapatra while briefing the media.
He further stated that construction is expected to commence immediately after the monsoon season ends.
The Minister also acknowledged that continuous rainfall over the past few months has delayed major infrastructure activities. However, minor repair works are currently underway to provide interim relief.
The proposed master plan is expected to provide a long-term solution to the city’s recurring drainage and flooding challenges during the rainy season.
