Bhubaneswar: Odisha police has ranked third among 18 large and mid-sized States in the India Justice Report (IJR) 2020.
In Police Ranking, Odisha scored 5.59 bagging the third spot in Large and mid-sized States category. There were 18 states in this category. Odisha stood behind Chhattisgarh with 5.63 and Karnataka with 5.71 (marks) in the table. Madhya Pradesh scored the lowest 3.17 in this category and was in the 18th position.
In another survey ‘Ranking diversity’: How do police, prisons, judiciary and legal aid score, Odisha ranked third in the large and mid-sized States category. Odisha scored 6.02 behind, Kerala (6.13) and Karnataka (7.07) in this segment.
DGP Abhay expressed happiness on the performance of Odisha Police in IJR 2020. He tweeted: Very happy to note that Odisha Has been ranked third in Policing among 18 Large and mid-sized states ranked by prestigious “India Justice Report 2020”.
In the Human Resources ranking, Odisha scored 6.07 and was at the fourth spot among 18 states in the large and mid-sized category.
In the overall rankings or the Composite ranking across police, prisons, judiciary, and legal aid, Odisha ranked 11 with a score of 4.90 out of 10. Maharastra, Tamil Nadu ad Telangana grabbed the top three ranks in the same order in the composite rankings.
The IJR is an initiative of Tata Trusts in collaboration with the Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, DAKSH, TISS-Prayas, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, and How India Lives. The maiden IJR was announced in 2019.
