Bhubaneswar: In a major success for the Odisha Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) keeping a tab on organized crime, a huge haul of illegal fire-arms have been seized from the Chandaka area here in the capital city and two anti-socials have also been arrested.
Addressing a press meet here today, Crime Branch ADG Soumendra Priyadarshi said, “In the last 24 hours, State Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) has seized eight illegal arms from the peripheral areas of Bhubaneswar’s Chandaka. We have also seized 12 ammunitions. The eight seized guns include two pistols, five country-made revolvers and a copper-coated gun. Two persons involved in this illegal trade have also been arrested. They were supplying the guns in this area.”
“The more we seize the illegal arms, the more we can have a control over crime. It’s an operation launched by the State Police against organized crime. This drive will be maintained and stepped up further. Crime Branch STF has accordingly stepped up its criminal intelligence network,” he stated.
Responding to media queries, the CB ADG said that illegal arms and ammunition are found to be used in most of the big criminal activities.
He also informed, “We have seized guns and ammunition in Bhadrak day before yesterday. Past seizures have also revealed that most of the illegal arms are being smuggled into here from Bihar area. In some of our places, the item is being made locally. The way this haul of arms has been seized today, they might have been brought from outside subject to further investigation.”
“In the wake of the two persons arrested today as well as the quick action to be taken against another person, we will be examining the case in details and unravel the sources and modus operandi,” quipped the Crime Branch ADG.
