Bhubaneswar: The East Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, Pinak Mishra, on Saturday said that a crackdown against illegal immigrants is underway in coastal districts of Odisha.
Speaking to the media, DIG Mishra said, “As per the state government’s instructions, illegal immigrants are those who do not possess valid identity proof and do not have residency in India. The drive has been launched across all districts and will continue in the coming days. Being a technical operation, it is being conducted carefully to ensure smooth implementation.”
He added that in the East Range, more than five Marine Police Stations operate in Bhadrak and Balasore districts, with two stations actively participating in the ongoing drive. Staff members of these stations, along with local communities and fishermen, are assisting the police in the operation.
In Odisha’s East Range, the Marine Police have been fully mobilised, employing drone surveillance and intensifying security checks, particularly along the coastal belt. In Bhadrak district, the operation is in full swing under the jurisdiction of Kasia Marine Police Station in Basudevpur block.
DIG Mishra emphasised that the drive aims to ensure that all residents are properly documented while maintaining law and order along the coast.
He said the state government is committed to conducting the operation with transparency and sensitivity.
