Illegal Stone Quarry On Lord Jagannath’s Land Busted

Khurda: A precious stone trafficking racket was busted on Monday after raid on a stone quarry running illegally on a piece of land belonging to Lord Jagannath under Jankia police limits in Khurda district.

The quarry was mining precious coarse-grained sandstone which is used to carve statues. The stones were being trafficked inside and outside the State.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Jankia Police Station, under the supervision of Khurda DSP Satish Prasad Padhy, along with local Tehsildar and other officials conducted a raid at the stone quarry and five other places where the stones are being cut and shaped.

While machines and equipment amounting to lakhs of rupees were seized from the raid sites, police have received information about various other places where the illegal business is being carried out and will act accordingly.
