Illegally Stored Firecrackers Worth Rs 12 Lakh Seized In Khordha, 2 Detained

Khordha: Police on Saturday seized two mini truckloads of firecrackers of different categories and 25 kg gunpowder during a raid at a godown in Kantabada village under Begunia police limits.

Two persons have been detained in this connection by the police.

The accused persons have been identified as Biswanatha Mohapatra and Prasanna Mohapatra of Kantabada village under Begunia police limits, police said.

According to the police, the accused persons had kept the firecrackers and gunpowder in their houses for manufacturing and trading purposes without having any license for the same.

Police said the approximate worth of the seized firecrackers and gunpowder is Rs 12 lakh.

The Bomb Disposal Squad and District Forensic Science Laboratory team have been deputed to the spot for defusing/destruction of explosive items and collection of samples from seized firecrackers and gunpowder.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source of procurement and involvement of others, police said.
