Cuttack: Six days after the mutilated body of a youth identified as Ajad Yadav, a native of Bihar, was found on Mahanadi riverbank under Bidanasi police limits in Cuttack, DCP Prateek Singh informed that illicit relationship was the reason behind the crime.
Ajad (25), a native of Chakasia in Banka district of Bihar was residing at Shantipalli in Sahid Nagar area of Bhubaneswar had gone missing since February 25. After the recovery of his body on March 3, Ajad’s brother Ramji Kumar Yadav had lodged a complaint at Bidanasi Police Station alleging his brother has been murdered.
During the investigation, it was ascertained that family members had earlier lodged his missing complaint at Sahid Nagar Police Station on February 26. Police also found the involvement of three persons who had hatched a criminal conspiracy to murder Ajad.
The accused persons were identified as Munilal Sharma (35), Pankaj Sharma, and Kailash Choudhury (40). Munilal is the paternal uncle of Pankaj. All the accused persons and the deceased have been residing at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for years and were doing interior design, ceiling, aluminum works, etc.
Ajad was having affairs with the wife of Pankaj and both had eloped with each other from Bhubaneswar about one year back. However, the village punch at their local village in Bihar had resolved the matter amicably and both Ajad and Pankaj’s wife parted ways. But the incident ignited anger in the mind of Pankaj.
Three months prior to the murder, Ajad again came to Odisha for interior design work and started working with Munilal. Pankaj got to know about it and prompted Munilal to kill Ajad to take revenge. He offered him a loan of Rs 20,000 for purchasing a scooter.
On February 19, the three accused persons hatched a plan in Munilal’s rented house at Chauliaganj and as per plan, Munilal called Ajad on February 25 and asked him to come to Cuttack for payment of the outstanding amount.
At about 11 AM, Ajad reached the rented house of Munilal from where they went to a field near Mahanadi riverbank at Bhuasuni Gada and they consumed liquor. Finding the opportunity, Munilal assaulted Ajad by means of a beer bottle. There was tussle between both of them and Ajad ran over to save his life.
Munilal chased him and bludgeoned him to death with a big stone. He threw away his blood stained shirt at the spot and fled. Then Munilal telephoned Kailash to come to Krushak Bazar to pick him up. Both went to Laxmi Sagar in Bhubaneswar and received Rs 20,000 in cash from Pankaj.
Both Munilal and Kailash were arrested today while a manhunt has been launched to nab Pankaj.
