Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for five districts in Odisha, warning of impending thunderstorms and strong winds that may cause disruptions in the affected areas.
According to the nowcast warning issued by the IMD at 13:25 am, Bhadrak and Keonjhar districts are under an orange alert, indicating that they are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms with lightning, surface wind speeds reaching 40-60 kmph, and light to moderate rain within the next three hours. These weather conditions may cause minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops.
Meanwhile, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Jajpur districts are under a yellow alert. These districts will likely experience light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, lightning, and light to moderate rain within the next three hours.
The IMD has advised people in the affected districts to be prepared for potential disruptions and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes. Residents are also advised to secure loose structures and crops to minimise damage.
