Bhubaneswar: Even as a wet spell continues to soak different parts of Odisha, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast heavy rainfall in the state and predicted that the weather conditions are likely to prevail for two more days.
The IMD has issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, while a yellow alert has been issued for 11 Odisha districts and an orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Balasore and Sundargarh. In an alert issued on Monday, the weather office has warned of flash floods and landslides due to heavy rain in some areas and advised people to remain alert. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has also alerted the District Collectors of the affected areas to take precautionary measures to meet any eventuality.
Meanwhile, the water level in the Jalaka river has crossed the danger mark on Sunday night. The people living on the banks of the river are threatened with flood. For the last two days, there has been heavy rain in Rasagobindpur, Morada, Shulwanpada, and Chitada areas of upper catchment area and Jalaka river basin.
Danger code number 3 has been issued to Dhamra and Paradip ports on the north coast.
The IMD has forecast that the weather is likely to change from Wednesday and the intensity of rains will decrease.
