Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Sunday forecast that several districts of Odisha are expected to experience heavy rainfall on Sunday.
The IMD has also issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Nabrangpur districts.
In addition, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts on Sunday.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts and extends up to mid-tropospheric levels. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand during the next 2-3 days.
The weather office further said that another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 18.
The wet spells of monsoon rainfall activity are likely to continue across Odisha with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next week.
Meanwhile, the IMD said that Odisha received an average rainfall of 31.2 mm during the last 24 hours, while the average rainfall recorded in the state from July 1 o July 16 is 129.3 mm against the July monthly average of 339.9 mm.
The highest rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours is 215.0 mm in Kirmira Block of Jharsuguda district.
