Bhubaneswar: Even as an intense heat wave coupled with high humidity has disrupted normal life in Odisha, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued orange and yellow warnings stating that the day temperature may soar further in several districts of the state during the next three to four days.
At 2.30 pm, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur in western Odisha recorded a maximum temperature of 43.2°C, while Hirakud was close behind recording 42.4°C.
The day temperature recorded in the capital city Bhubaneswar at 2.30 pm was 41.8°C, while the mercury stood at 39.2°C in Chandabali, 39.0°C in Keonjhar, 36.8°C in Puri 36.8°C, and 36.2°C in Balasore.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be above normal by 4-6°C at a few places in several districts of Odisha during the next three days. As a result, hot and discomfort weather is likely to prevail during the next 3 days.
The weather office issued an orange warning and said the heat wave is likely to be severe at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Kandhamal, & Keonjhar.
The yellow warning was issued for some of the Sundargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Deogarh districts.
Similarly, an orange warning about heat and severe heat wave was issued for Monday in some places of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Keonjhar districts. A yellow warning was issued for some parts of the Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Mayurbhanj districts.
The IMD also issued an orange warning for Tuesday in some parts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, and Boudh districts where heat waves and severe heat waves will prevail.
