Bhubaneswar: A red warning for rain and thunderstorms has been issued for three Odisha districts for Friday as a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to become depression within 24 hours.
The IMD has issued the red warning for Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri, while an orange alert has been issued for four other districts – Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur – for Friday.
While red alert is issued for heavy to extremely heavy rain, an orange warning indiciates isolated heavy rainfall.
According to the weather office, a low-pressure area formed over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood. The low-pressure area is very likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by Friday.
Subsequently, it is likely to intensify into a depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next two days and move towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts today.
