Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here issued a warning for thunderstorms in several districts of Odisha on Monday.
As per the IMD bulletin, thunderstorm along with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts. A yellow warning has been for these districts.
Meanwhile, incessant rain in many places of the state since Saturday has brought down the temperature significantly providing relief from heat wave conditions prevailing earlier. It has been raining in many places in Odisha since last night disrupting normal life.
However, the day temperature will remain under control till March 23 due to the western disturbances, said the IMD. From March 25 onwards, there will be a change in weather in the state. The temperature will soar by 2°C to 4°C and the weather will remain sunny and dry.
The untimely rain has provided relief to the people from heat conditions but it has also given rise to concern for farmers. Brinjal, cucumber, ridge gourd, cabbage, beans and leafy vegetable have been destroyed due to hailstorms in many places.
At the same time, strong winds and lightning have claimed three lives in the past two days and destroyed properties. Mud houses in many places collapsed unable to withstand the roughness of the weather.
