Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a Yellow Warning (Be Aware) for the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, forecasting light to moderate thunderstorms with lightning or light rain within the next three hours.
According to the nowcast warning issued at 4:15 PM IST by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, thunderstorm activity is likely to occur at one or two places over several districts of Odisha, including Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city) and Cuttack (including Cuttack city).
Apart from the twin cities, the districts likely to be affected are Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.
The IMD has advised residents to remain alert and keep a close watch on weather conditions for any sudden deterioration. People have been urged to move to safer places during lightning and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles to protect themselves from possible lightning strikes.
The Yellow alert indicates the need to “be aware” of potentially adverse weather conditions, though no major disruption is anticipated at present.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
