Bhubaneswar: Even as dense fog continues to shroud nearly all districts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow warning for dense fog in 15 districts of the state till January 5. The weather office has also predicted light rain at some places in Odisha this week.

With the gradual rise in mercury during the nights, Odisha is currently enjoying a mild winter. However, the occurrence of dense is a reason for concern as it is reducing visibility significantly. According to the IMD, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Khurdha, Puri, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and Koraput are likely to be covered by dense fog on January 4 and 5.

Dense fog covered several parts of Odisha, including the capital city of Bhubaneswar, today morning reducing visibility to below 50 meters disrupting normal life, and creating problems for commuters.

There may be light rain or thundershower at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on January 5 and 6. Otherwise, dry weather is likely to prevail across the state.

No significant change in the minimum (nighttime) temperatures across Odisha is likely during the next few days. At the same time, the IMD predicted that the minimum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 2°C to 3°C  some places in Odisha.

At least 12 places in the state recorded night temperature of 12°C or below, while Koraput was the coldest place in Odisha at 8°C. Other places which recorded night temperatures below 12°C include G Udayagiri (8.2°C) and Daringbadi (8.5°C). Phulbani recorded 9.5°C, Semiliguda in Koraput recorded 9.7°C, Ranital in Bhadrak recorded 10.2°C, Nabarangpur recorded 10.6°C, Koenjhar recorded 10.8°C, Kirei recorded at 11.5°C, Angul recorded 11.6, and Rourkela recorded 12°C.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 15.9°C and 14.5°C respectively.
