Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a dense fog warning for select districts of Odisha, cautioning residents to stay vigilant until January 16 morning. A ‘Yellow’ alert has been issued for Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts.

In addition, shallow to moderate fog is expected in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Angul, and Deogarh districts during the same period.

The IMD has further indicated that dense fog conditions will persist in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal for the subsequent 24 hours. Shallow to moderate fog is also likely to affect Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, and Nayagarh until January 17 morning. The conditions are expected to extend to Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Nayagarh, and Deogarh through January 18 morning.

Despite the fog warnings, dry weather is expected to prevail across Odisha during this period.

The IMD also forecasted no significant change in night temperatures over the next 3-4 days. However, temperatures are likely to drop by 2-3°C thereafter across the state.

Residents are advised to exercise caution during early morning and late-night travel due to reduced visibility caused by foggy conditions.
