Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha has been experiencing a mild winter, dense fog engulfed several places in the state during the last 24 hours. G Udayagiri was the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature (nighttime temperature) of 7°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in at least seven places in Odisha hovered between 7°C and 11°C in the last 24 hours.
Koraput recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2°C followed by Daringbadi at 9°C, Semiliguda at 9.7°C, Keonjhar at 10.9°C, Ranital and Angul at 11°C each, and Kirei at 11.3°C. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 15°C each.
The IMD on Friday ruled out the possibility of any significant change in the state during the next five days. However, the minimum temperature is likely to be 2°C – 3°C above normal at several places in the state.
Meanwhile, several places in Odisha, including Rourkela, experienced dense fog on Friday morning. In addition, shallow to moderate fog occurred in Jharsuguda, Paradip, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, and Keonjhar. The weather office has forecast light showers in some parts of Odisha and issued yellow warnings of dense fog for two more days.
According to the IMD, light rain or thundershower is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj from 8.30 am on January 5 to 8.30 am on January 6. A yellow warning for dense fog has been issued for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Nabarangpur.
At the same time, shallow to moderate fog may occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, and at one or two places in remaining districts of Odisha.
