Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain is likely to increase in several districts of Odisha from Wednesday, warned the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Several districts will experience more rainfall accompanied by lightning till August 17 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation in neighbouring Jharkhand and adjoining areas, the IMD said.
A yellow alert has been issued for 15 Odisha districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on Wednesday. These districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm).
The IMD predicts that the weather conditions are likely to change across Odisha from August 18.
During this monsoon, the state received 634 mm of rain since June 1. As of now, there is a deficit of 9 per cent rainfall. While Malkangari received more than normal rainfall, 16 districts received normal rainfall this monsoon.
