Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid conditions across several districts of Odisha, which are expected to persist until May 15.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to rise by 3–5°C over the next 4 to 5 days, with no significant change anticipated thereafter in the districts of Odisha.

The IMD also predicted a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid conditions in parts of the state. Conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati on May 11.

Additionally, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, and Nuapada. Dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining districts of Odisha on the same day.

The IMD has also issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning, along with gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h, which are likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours. Heatwave conditions are expected to affect one or two places in Odisha from May 12 to 13.

Looking ahead, after May 13, the IMD predicts a continued ‘Yellow’ warning for heatwave conditions in one or two places in Odisha on May 14 and 15.
