Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of ‘Yellow’ warnings predicting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha between August 5 and August 9, 2025.
According to mid-day weather bulletin, the IMD warned of gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph, along with thunderstorms and lightning, which are likely to affect one or two places across various districts of the state.
On August 5, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
A similar alert has been issued for August 6, covering the same districts.
On August 7, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
For August 8, heavy rain and thunderstorm activity is likely to affect Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda. Other districts likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
On August 9, the Yellow Warning remains in place for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The IMD has advised residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid weather-related hazards.
