Bhubaneswar: A yellow warning for hot and humid conditions along with thunderstorms and gusty winds has been issued for several districts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department said in its midday bulletin on Friday.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail at one or two places in coastal districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur over the next 24 hours. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph in parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Kandhamal, mainly during afternoon and evening hours.
The bulletin said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places across several districts, while dry weather may continue in the remaining parts of the state.
The warning continues over the next few days, with similar thunderstorm and lightning activity expected across southern, interior and coastal districts till April 8. Wind speeds of 30–50 kmph are likely in different regions depending on the day and location.
Meanwhile, temperature conditions remain above normal in many areas. The highest maximum temperature of 40.6°C was recorded at Jharsuguda, while Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 19.0°C. Day temperatures are expected to witness no major change in the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual fall of 2–3°C over subsequent days.
For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the forecast indicates a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning, with temperatures likely to hover around 39°C (maximum) and 26°C (minimum).
Despite localized rainfall activity reported in districts such as Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal, the IMD noted that no significant synoptic system currently prevails over the region.
