Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, north and north-western Odisha are likely to receive light to moderate rain on Saturday and Sunday under the influence of a western cyclonic system. On the other hand, winter chill is expected to return in the remaining parts of the state as the night temperature is likely to drop by 2°C – 4°C.
The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued an alert for light rain in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Nuapada tomorrow, while light to moderate rain is likely in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh on Sunday.
Meanwhile, dense for will occur in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada during the next few days significantly reducing visibility.
Overall, the weather will remain dry across the state till January 1 while formation of a fresh low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in the first week of January.
Meanwhile, farmers are once again worried about the unseasonal rain. Despite the low probability of heavy rains, continuous unseasonal rains have wreaked havoc on crops in coastal and interior Odisha. Farmers fear that fresh rains will worsen the situation further.
