Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a depression and bring heavy rains to Odisha. According to the IMD bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation has formed over the coastal areas of central Myanmar and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal.

The system is expected to move westwards and form a low-pressure area over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on September 25. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh on September 26.

The IMD has issued a “Yellow Warning” for several districts in Odisha, including Malkangiri, Gajapati, Koraput, and others, predicting heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. The warning also includes districts like Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam, among others.

Heavy rains are expected in the state for the next four days, with moderate rain predicted in the next 24 hours. The IMD has advised people to be aware of the potential impact of the weather system and take necessary precautions.

On September 27, the IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in several districts, including Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and others. The warning also includes districts like Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and others.

The state authorities and disaster management teams are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to minimise the impact of the weather system.
