IMD Predicts Heavy Rain In Odisha, SRC Puts Collectors On Alert

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradip Jena today issued an advisory to all Collectors to remain on alert as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the majority of the districts in the State under the influence of the well-marked low-pressure area over North-West Bay of Bengal and a fresh low-pressure area likely to form over West Central adjoining North Bay of Bengal around Sunday (August 9).

“Situation may be closely monitored. Districts under orange & yellow warning to remain prepared to meet any water logging/ localised flood like situation including in urban areas. Advice for fishermen to be strictly followed,” the advisory issued by the SRC said.

The IMD has said that surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal, also squally weather occasionally surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph along and off Odisha coast.

Fishermen have been advised by the SRC not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 06.08.2020)

Orange Warning : Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Angul.
Yellow Warning : Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, and Balasore.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 07.08.2020)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar & Mayurbhanj.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 08.08.2020) : Nil

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 09.08.2020)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada (.)

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.08.2020 up to 0830 hrs IST of 10.08.2020).

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Bolangir, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj & Dhenkanal.
