Bhubaneswar: The possibility of a new low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal and neighboring areas is likely to bring more rainfall to Odisha from Monday. The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several parts of Odisha, especially the coastal and adjoining regions are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall from tomorrow.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is also likely in Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khordha on September 18.
The IMD further said that some areas of Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurdha, Puri, and Ganjam districts will receive heavy rainfall. Issuing a yellow warning, it said that Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi may experience heavy rain on September 19.
In the past four days, Odisha witnessed a significant increase in rainfall, with an average of 110.5 mm recorded. This represents a substantial 231% increase over the usual rainfall of 33.4 mm.
