Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain is likely to increase in Odisha during the next 24 hours under the influence of a low-pressure area over the North-Western Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rain across the state today.
According to the weather office, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, and Kalahandi districts are likely to experience very heavy rain (70 mm to 200 mm) today, while the wet spell is likely to continue in Odisha till September 15. In addition, lightning and thunderstorms are expected in some areas of the state.
All districts of the state have been issued a yellow warning in view of moderate to heavy rainfall today.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in 11 districts on Tuesday. According to the MeT, there will be more lightning during rain and hence, advised people not to leave their house during this time.
During the current monsoon season, Odisha has recorded about 15 per cent deficit rainfall. While 12 districts have reported scarcity in rainfall, 18 districts have recorded normal rainfall. IMD has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 10 days is likely to improve the rain deficit situation in Odisha.
