Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface winds, and hail over several districts in Odisha from March 20 to 23, 2025.
On March 20, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhargarh, and Sundargarh. An orange warning has been issued for these districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and hail, accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching 50-60 kmph, are very likely to occur.
A yellow warning has also been issued for several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Jajpur, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur.
On March 21, light rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj at one or two.places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.
Orange warning has been issued for thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur.
Yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed over the districts of Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Cuttack,Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur.
The IMD has predicted that the thunderstorm activity will continue on March 22 and 23, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.
Residents have been advised to be prepared and take necessary precautions during this period.
