Bhubaneswar: A low‑pressure area that was lingering over the southeast Bay of Bengal on the morning of 24 Oct 2025 has kept drifting west‑northwestward and is expected to intensify rapidly, informed. the India Meteorological Department.
According to IMD, it could become a depression by October 25, a deep depression by October 26, and may mature into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west‑central Bay by the morning of October 27.
Going by IMD information, the system was tracked at 8: 30 am (IST) today, positioned over the same region after a slow west‑northwestward movement over the past three hours.
The regional weather office has predicted a steady strengthening trend as it continues on its current track, with the potential to develop a well‑marked low‑pressure area, then a depression, and eventually a cyclonic storm within the next 72 hours.
Under its influence, coastal districts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are likely to witness heavy rain, gusty winds and rough seas from October 25 onwards.
