Bhubaneswar: Depression over south coastal Odisha is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh. The IMD has issued alerts for 11 districts in Odisha, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, the regional weather department has issued a yellow alert for 11 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
The weather department has warned of heavy rainfall in the northern and western parts of the state, particularly until August 24 due to low-pressure. Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution while venturing into the sea, as the sea is expected to be rough.
The Paradeep Fish Harbour has issued a warning, advising fishermen not to venture into the sea until August 21. Those already at sea have been asked to return to shore.
On Tuesday, Jagatsinghpur recorded 28.2 mm, Bhadrak 20 mm, Talcher 16.4 mm, Bhubaneswar 11.7 mm, Cuttack 11.6 mm, and Sonepur 10 mm of rainfall.
