IMD Warns Of Rain, Thunderstorms with Lightning In Odisha For Next Two Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of rain, thunderstormss with lightning across the districts of Odisha over the next two days.

The Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC’s) office has issued an advisory to Collectors of all districts in this connection.

The SRC’s office has advised the Collectors to circulate the warning message among the public.

It has asked the Collectors to closely monitor the situation and take action as deemed necessary in case of any eventuality.

Further, it has asked to promptly report details of the incident if any to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at many places over the rest of districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours, according to the IMD.

Besides, IMD has issued an ‘Orange Warning’ for the next 24 hours predicting thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Also heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and  Khurda.

Further, it has issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ for 24 hours predicting thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

In its forecast for the next 24 hours for Bhubaneswar and the neighbourhood, the IMD has predicted rain or thundershowers with strong gusty winds adding maximum and minimum temperature very likely to be around 36°C and 23°C respectively.

On the temperature front, the IMD has forecast that maximum temperature (Day temperature) very likely to fall by 3-5 degrees Celsius today (13th May 2021) and again it will rise tomorrow by 2-4 degrees Celsius at many places over the districts of North Odisha and no large change in maximum temperature thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 13.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 14.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at many places over the rest of districts of Odisha.

Orange Warning ( To be prepared): 1.Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Also heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda.

Yellow Warning(To be updated): 2. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 14.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 15.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Koraput, Malkangiri and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning(To be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 15.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 16.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and dry weather likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day 4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 17.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day 5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.05.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 18.05.2021).

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
