Mayurbhanj: A woman was allegedly poisoned to death by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law in Bhandaripal village under Kaptipada police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district over dowry on Tuesday. She breathed her last on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Sita Naik, wife of Sudarshan Bindhani of Bhandaripal village in the district.

According to reports, Sudarshan and Sita had a love marriage nine months back. Since their marriage, her in-laws have been allegedly torturing her mentally and physically and forcing her to get more dowry from her parents.

On Tuesday, Sita Naik was allegedly poisoned by her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law resulting in her death on Wednesday.

On being informed by the neighbours, Sita’s relatives reached Bhandaripal village and rushed her to Udla Hospital in a critical condition. Sita breathed her last at the hospital on Wednesday morning. Her mother lodged a written complaint at the Kaptipada police station alleging that her daughter was poisoned to death. On the basis of the complaint, the police have started an investigation into the incident and detained the in-laws of the deceased.
