In Mineral-Rich Keonjhar, Pregnant Woman Dies Of Blood Scarcity

**Keonjhar:** In an untoward incident, a pregnant woman died due to scarcity of blood during her delivery at Champua Hospital in mineral rich Keonjhar district. However, the infant is safe and sound. The family members allege it to be negligence of doctors.

Notably, the woman named Yamuna Minz was referred to Champua Hospital from Barbil in a very serious condition. The doctors in Champua Hospital asked the family members to arrange blood for the patient quickly.

But they were not able to arrange it on time as they did not know how and where to arrange blood during such precarious condition. The doctor had already taken the patient for operation. Post the operation; he informed that the patient had died due to lack of blood on time.

“She came in a serious condition. I immediately took her to the operation theatre asking her family members to arrange for blood. But they were unable to do so leading to her death,” informed Dr Karana Mohanty.

But according to a governmnet’s scheme, the hospital should provide a bottle of free blood to every expectant mother if needed, and the rest has to be arranged by her relatives.
When queried on this, the doctor was taken aback but later clarified that that blood group was not present in the blood bank.

“The doctor had taken money from us but later returned it back after the patient died. We did not know about the government’s scheme. Moreover, he was very late for the operation. Had the operation conducted on time, she would not have died,” said Dulari Minz, the deceased’s relative.
