Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall in Malkangiri district over the last three days has triggered a flood-like situation in several parts of the district.
Water is overflowing on the bridge passing through MV 96 village. The situation is being closely monitored by a team led by the Additional District Magistrate. Incessant rainfall in Andhra Pradesh has worsened the situation as a swollen Godavari river is flowing 50 feet above its usual level.
Sileru and Saberi rivers meet Chinna Godavari near Motu. Therefore, if the Chinna Godavari river swells, Motu in Malkangiri district is likely to witness a flood, report said. The situation is being monitored on the ground by Kalimela BDO, Motu Tahasildar and other staff of the district administration.
The flood-like situation in several parts of southern Malkangiri has disrupted communication between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh through the district. Hundreds of vehicles are stuck on the main road through MV 96 bridge.
