India’s No-1 Smart City Bhubaneswar Placed ’94’ In “Swachh Survekshan-2017”
**Bhubaneswar:** Madhya Pradesh’s Indore and Bhopal have notched the top two rankings in the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’ survey which was announced by Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today.
Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar ranks 94, Rourkela is placed at 168, Berhampur-187, Balasore-190, Puri-194, Cuttack-204, Baripada-261, Sambalpur-322 and Bhadrak-349 out of a survey conducted over 500 cities of India.
In order to foster a healthy competition between cities for improving cleanliness standards, the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) started the “Swachh Survekshan” survey in 2016, ranking of cities on cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation. In 2017, it conducted a survey to rank 434 cities of India as against 73 in 2016.

According to Naidu,Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have shown very promising results with accounting for 50 of the cleanest sities on the list. Gujarat had the most, 12 clean cities, closely trailed by Madhya Pradesh with 11 cities.
Andhra Pradesh had eight of the cities that scored well on the survey.Uttar Pradesh was at the bottom of the list with 25 cities performing poorly in the survey.
