Dhenkanal: A man allegedly killed his wife over a family feud at Gopapur village under Kankadahada police station in Dhenkanal district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Rangabati Das, while the accused is her husband Niranjan Das. Niranjan came to his house drunk and started beating Rangabati after an argument over some issue on Saturday night. The altercation took an ugly turn and Niranjan started thrashing Rangabati. After some time, he allegedly poured kerosene on her and set Rangabati on fire. Rangabati succumbed to her burn injuries after some time.
“My father came home inebriated on Saturday night and beat my mother. Later, he set her on fire, resulting in her death. I have registered a complaint with Kankadahada police in this regard,” said Bikash Das, son of the deceased.
On being informed about the incident, Kankadahada police reached the spot and seized the body. Police have also detained Niranjan.
Kamakshanagar SDPO Ranjan Kumar De said that the half-burned dead body was seized and brought to Kamakshanagar Medical Center for autopsy and further investigation is underway. The real cause will be known after the autopsy.
