Balasore: A seven-day-old baby boy was allegedly stolen from the Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) of Balasore district headquarters hospital on Thursday.

Shushant Barik’s wife of Baliapal gave birth to a baby boy at the hospital. The infant was given jaundice treatment at the SNCU. When Barik came outside to have lunch, someone stole his baby.

“We have admitted my newborn son for jaundice treatment on April 2. He was given phototherapy. Today at around 12.30, I went to a nearby eatery to bring food for my wife. When I came back, I found my baby missing. Someone has stolen my son when my wife fell asleep,” Susant Barik, father of the infant, said.

The couple lodged a complaint at the Medical police outpost, based on which police launched an investigation.

The reaction from hospital authorities is available.
