According to reports, on the fateful day-October 9, last year, Manish and the three accused persons had food at the South City Hotel & Bar located in Patrapada locality of the city.
They had a scuffle among themselves over the payment of the hotel bill. Manish footed the bill after getting a money transfer twice from his mother. After Manish had walked out of the hotel, the accused persons followed him.
Subsequently, Manish and his friends had heated arguments over the issue resulting in a fight near the national highway. Manish was allegedly killed in the attack. In order to destroy evidence, the accused persons (friends of Manish) carried Manish’s body in Amrit Pritam’s car and dumped it in the Namrakani pond at Patrapada.
On October 10 at the break of dawn, Manish’s parents lodged a complaint at the Infocity police station that their son has been kidnapped. Later in the day police recovered Manish’s body from the pond at Patrapada.
The police after conducting raids at several places in the city first arrested Amrit Pritam and later picked up the other two accused from Kandhamal.
The accused persons after committing the crime had stayed at a hotel in Unit IV and had left for Kandhamal the next day.
It is pertinent to mention here that Manish was the elder son of senior journalist Navin Das.
