Bhubaneswar: A 16-year-old chained minor boy was rescued by authorities of Railway Childline from Bhubaneswar station on Wednesday.
Child Welfare Committee member Benudhar Senapati said, “He was sick when he was rescued and immediately went to sleep. After one day, he was narrating his story and he rolled up his pants. We were shocked to see two iron shackles around his ankles.”
Reportedly, the teenager is a Class 10 student and belongs to Chhatrapur area of Ganjam district. He said that he had been locked in a room by his father and brother for the last two months and was chained for being ill-mannered and neglecting his studies.
“There is a three-year jail term for treating children inhumanly,” said Senapati adding that a FIR will be lodged into the matter and the case will be transferred to Ganjam Child Welfare Committee.
