Puri: On the auspicious occasion of Bijaya Dashami (Dusshera), the initiation ceremony for the rare Nagarjuna Besha of Lord Jagannath and His siblings was solemnized today.
This year the deities will be in this special attire on November 27 during the pious Panchuka (concluding five days of the upcoming holy month of Kartik), as per the Hindu almanac.
This time Panchuka will be of six days instead of five owing to an extra month as well as the extra day added to it.
So far the Nagarjuna Besha is concerned, temple servitor Balaram Khuntia’s family has been rendering this service since long. They received the Angyamala (divine nod) today to begin the preparation for the rare Nagarjuna Besha.
The deities in Nagarjuna Besha are witnessed in the outfit of warriors with golden bows, arrows, plough, wheel and mace in their hands and also golden helmet on heads.
On the other hand, the deities were in their customary Suna Besha (golden attire) on the Ratna Singhashana (sanctum sanctorium) today on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami (Dusshera). But, no devotees could have a glance of it as it has been debarred till date due to the ongoing pandemic protocols.
Mahaprabhu’s holy Kartik month rituals will commence from tomorrow onwards. Besides the Radha Damodar Besha, Bala Dhupa will also be offered to the deities during the sacred month.
