Bhubaneswar: An injured elephant that was rescued from the Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary has succumbed to its injuries. The elephant was found injured near the Mundasahi village under the Talabasta forest section on Tuesday.
According to sources, the elephant had sustained injuries during a fight with another elephant near the Bolagada water body on March 19. A team of veterinarians was dispatched to provide medical aid to the injured elephant, but unfortunately, it died on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, the Forest department has launched an investigation into the cause of the elephant’s death. The post-mortem of the tusker will be conducted today to determine the exact cause of death.
Forest officials, including DFO Sarat Kumar Behera and ACF Sangram Mohanty, visited the spot to investigate the incident.
