Bhubaneswar: The female elephant rescued from the Betananti Chuabhand forest is currently undergoing treatment in a critical condition at the elephant treatment Centre in Bangiriposhi Talbandh.
The elephant’s jaw is severely infected, and its tongue has been cut into three parts, making it unable to eat on its own.
The forest department is providing liquid food and antibiotics to the elephant, and a senior veterinary doctor from Nandankanan may be called for further treatment if necessary.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the elephant’s injury, with suspicions of a sharp weapon or possible poisoning from explosives used for hunting.
The forest department is taking all necessary steps to ensure the elephant’s recovery.
