Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts is likely to bring heavy rainfall in several areas of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
The intensity of rain is likely to decrease somewhat on Friday but increase again from September 18, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted.
While the IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain in six districts, the remaining areas of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. According to the weather office, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur over the districts of Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nuapada, and Sambalpur.
Similarly, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) in one or two places over Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.
A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) in one or two places in the Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Nayagarh, Jajpur, and Rayagada districts.
