Bhubaneswar: The intensity of monsoon rain is likely to intensify in Odisha with the formation of a cyclonic storm in the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, the formation of a low-pressure and cyclonic storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the state from Wednesday.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in several districts of Odisha till Saturday. The weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Bolangir districts for Tuesday.
Moreover, heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Boudh, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh districts in the next 24 hours.
The weather office said that while the state will receive heavy rainfall during this week, the heaviest downpour is expected on July 21. Some areas may receive rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm.
Odisha has experienced a rainfall deficit this year. The average rainfall recorded this monsoon is 20 per cent less than the expected average rainfall.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 3.4 mm and 2 mm rainfall on Monday resulting in high humidity and rise in temperature.
