Bargarh: Bargarh police have claimed to have busted an inter-state gang involved in ATM robbery with the arrest of two of its members.
While two members of the robbery gang were nabbed from Chhatapathar under Bargarh Sadar police limits by two special teams formed by Bargarh SP Rahul Jain, two managed to escape.
The accused have been identified as Bijay Yadav (25) alias Jitu, a resident of Shyam Nagar under Naubasta police limits of Kanpur Urban district in Uttar Pradesh, and Shyamji Goutam (20) alias Shekhar, a resident of Patel Nagar under Ramadevi police limits of Kanpur Urban district in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Addressing a presser Bargarh SP Rahul Jain informed that the police had received a tip-off that an inter-state ATM robbers’ gang was stealing money from various ATMs by manipulating and damaging the ATM machine’s software.
“We had input that the gang was planning to loot money from ATMs in Bargarh district. We formed two teams and were successful in apprehending two of the gang members red-handed, while two others managed to escape,” said Jain.
A Verna car used by them having registration number of UP, Rs 1,20,000 in cash, one bhujali one knife and other apparatus and tools used for breaking the ATMs have been seized from their possession, he added.
The SP sharing findings of the police investigation in the case so far said that the gang has stolen money amounting to around Rs 2 lakh from 18 ATMs in different districts of Odisha by manipulating the machine’s software.
“They have made similar attempts in ATMs in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Ganjam, Puri, Rayagada, Bolangir and Bargarh,” he added.
