Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) joined hands on Thursday to offer free rides for passengers on 50 Mo e-buses and e-rickshaws plying on various routes in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies.
Taking to its X (formerly Twitter) handle, BMC wrote, “CRUT_BBSR & @bmcbbsr come together to celebrate #InternationalDayOfCleanAirForBlueSkies. Let’s embark on a journey to a cleaner, greener future! On 7th September’23, hop on Mo E-Bus & Mo E-Ride & pledge to contribute towards sustainability. Let’s pave the way for a green future.”
The UN General Assembly has marked September 7 as the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. The theme this year is ‘Together for Clean Air’ and it highlights the urgent need for reinforced partnerships, more investments, and sharing responsibility to overcome air pollution.
Currently, CRUT operates 50 electric buses in Bhubaneswar and it aims to replace its entire fleet of vehicles with e-buses. Earlier, CRUT had announced its decision to expand its fleet by introducing 200 electric buses within the next two months. At the same time, plans are afoot to add 200 more e-autos as part of the government’s commitment to the cause of sustainability. These e-autos will be operated only by women, transgenders, and HIV-positive people.
