Bhubaneswar: HelpAge India today organised a first of its kind webinar “Empowering Elders: Building an Age Friendly and Caring Society” on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons 2020.
As many as 700 people residing in 30 old age homes in Odisha State joined the webinar.
The sessions of the webinar were moderated by Ranjay Kumar Das, the State Programme Officer of HelpAge India.
Residents from 30 old age homes from all districts of the State, for the first time connected through a virtual platform with each other.
They sang songs, spoke about their life experiences and enjoyed the moment.
Speaking on the occasion, Sabyasachi Mishra, social worker and Ollywood actor- stated that he enjoyed the moment with all the young hearts residing in old age homes.
Joining the webinar Bratati Harichandan, Director, Social Security & Empowerment of Persons With Disabilities (SSEPD) Department elaborated on the various efforts taken by the State Government for the care of the elderly in the State.
She wished good health and happiness to all senior citizens in the State.
Bharati Chakra, State Head, HelpAge India urged people from all walks of life to take the online pledge to take care of elderly through clicking on the link: https://www.helpageindia.org/pledge/ which was launched by HelpAge India today.
Chakra elaborated on how everyone should take care of senior citizens around them and help them lead a healthy and happy life during covid-19 times and beyond.
Prof. Pratap Rath, Psychologist discussed on how the elderly should take care of their thoughts to be happy and how the younger generation must not treat them with discrimination to ensure the dignity they deserve.
