Malkangiri: The internet restriction in Malkangiri has been extended by 18 hours, until 12:00 PM on December 10, 2025, as per the request of the Collector & District Magistrate. The decision was taken to maintain peace and order in the district, where a violent situation has been unfolding. The Home Department has issued a notice in this regard.
According to reports, thousands of tribals had entered MV-26 village in Korkonda block and set hundreds of houses on fire, leaving no house unscathed, following violence over the headless body of a tribal woman. The administration has stationed police, DVF, and BSF personnel in the village, and CCTV cameras have been installed. Out of 188 houses, 163 were completely destroyed in the fire.
The funeral of Lake Podami, whose headless body sparked violence, was held in the village, attended by thousands of people. The tribal association had submitted a 7-point demand letter to the District Collector, and the Chief Minister has announced Rs. 4 lakh compensation to the victim’s family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Senior police officials, including DG Police YB Khurania, ADG Sanjeev Panda, and District Collector Somesh Upadhyay, were present in the area to maintain peace and order.
