Bhubaneswar: In response to the escalating communal tensions in Bhadrak, the district administration has taken the unprecedented step of suspending internet services for 24 hours.
The decision was taken to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain law and order in the sensitive areas.
As per the decision taken by the district, the suspension will be in effect from 6 am today until 6 am tomorrow. The affected areas include Bhadrak municipality, Bhadrak block, Tihidi, Dhamnagar block, and Dhamnagar municipality. To maintain peace and order, 27 platoons of police forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, with Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout personally overseeing the development.
The decision of internet suspension was taken after a recent incident where a youth named Santosh Parida succumbed to injuries yesterday at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after being attacked by cattle smugglers in the Thihidi police station area of Bhadrak a few days ago.
Tihidi police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by Santosh’s wife, Minati Behera, and have arrested 12 accused individuals, including two main suspects. The situation in Bhadrak remains tense, with the police working diligently to apprehend the remaining accused and maintain peace in the area.
In a gesture of support, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a relief package of ₹10 lakh for the family of the deceased.
It is pertinent to mention that Parida had been undergoing treatment for 13 days before succumbing to his injuries at 2 pm yesterday.
