Berhampur: Pattapur police in Ganjam district on Thursday arrested six youths for their alleged involvement in illegal betting on the outcome of IPL matches.
Police have seized Rs 1.45 lakh in cash and six mobile phones from their possession.
Briefing reporters, Additional SP Ganjam PK Dalei informed that acting on a tip-off, Pattapur police on Thursday evening raided Podamari College ground leading to the arrest of the six youths who were involved in betting.
Dalei said that police have seized Rs 1.45 lakh and six mobile phones from the accused persons.
He said that the chats on the mobile phones of the accused persons have evidence of their involvement in betting.
They have confessed to having been into betting during IPL matches since last year, he added.
“We have booked them under sections 294A, 420, 120B, and 34 of IPC and sections 4 and 5 of the Prize, Chits, Money Circulation Scheme Banning Act and they have been arrested,” Dalei informed.
